Professor (Dr.) Anil Kumar Tripathi is one of India’s most distinguished hematologists, physician-scientists, medical educators, and public health advocates. Over a career spanning four decades, he has made outstanding contributions to patient care, medical education, biomedical research, and healthcare leadership, earning national and international recognition.
He has served in some of India’s highest academic and administrative positions, including Director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, Director of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, and Professor & Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.
A National Merit Scholar, Dr. Tripathi secured First Rank in both B.Sc. (Honours) and MBBS, receiving an extraordinary 19 University Medals, including 15 Gold Medals, for academic excellence. His pursuit of knowledge took him to leading international institutions, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), USA, along with advanced clinical training in New York, Pennsylvania, and Oxford.
An internationally acclaimed clinician-scientist, he has authored more than 175 peer-reviewed scientific publications, books like Essential of medicine for Dental Medicine and Clinical Medicine in Hindi ,established pioneering centres that transformed hematology and HIV care in northern India, and mentored generations of physicians and researchers.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Tripathi has remained deeply committed to society through three decades of free monthly medical camps in his native villages of the Faizabad–Ambedkar Nagar region. He has also promoted public health through books, newspaper articles, radio, and television, helping bring medical knowledge to the wider community.
His contributions have been honoured with numerous national and international awards, including the Fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians (London, Glasgow, and Ireland), the Vigyan Gaurav Award, Vigyan Ratna Award, National Award of Department of Science & Technology and several prestigious national orations and lifetime achievement honours.
Today, Professor (Dr.) Anil Kumar Tripathi continues to inspire as a clinician, teacher, researcher, institution builder, and humanitarian, leaving a legacy defined by excellence, innovation, compassion, and service.
